Fishing

The Loch Awe Improvement Association was formed in 1985 as the official care-taking body for the lochside and fishing.

Fishing Seaon
On Loch Awe you can fish for Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Char, Perch and Pike. The season for all species except Pike is from 15th March until 6th October. Pike is all year round.

The best Trout fishing is to be found from March until the middle of May. Any Brown Trout under 8" must be returned to the water, providing it is not damaged. The best Pike fishing is to be found from May until October. Forms of bait allowed for all fish are: fly, spinner, bait or a combination with or without a bubble float.

Exclusion Zones
There are now exclusion zones on the shore which are signposted. It is illegal to fish from the shore at these places. Fishing from a boat entitles you to fish anywhere on the loch, but not in close proximity to any of the Fish Farms.

Loch Tromlee
Pike fishing is also to be found on Loch Tromlee. Written permission must be obtained and fishing is from the bank only.

River Awe
The season runs from 11th February until 15th October, the best time being June to September. It is fly fishing only and costs around £100.00 for two rods per day.

River Orchy
The season runs from 11th February until 15th October, the best time being July to October. Fly, spinning and worm are allowed. The cost is around £100.00 for two rods per day.

Fishing on the rivers Awe and Orchy can be arranged, subject to availability. Please contact us with your requirements.
